Each season, Skate Ontario schedules competitions across Ontario for StarSkaters from Star 1-Gold. Competition dates, registration details and links will be communicated via email as they become available. Registration typically opens 8-weeks prior the competition date and the schedule us typically posted 3-weeks in advance. The number of competitions per season to up to you or your skater.
Parents will register their skater in the appropriate category / categories through the Skate Ontario website. When registering, it's important to remember that most competitions are 3-days (Fri - Sun) so please make sure you and your skater are available as you will not know which day(s) you will skate until the schedule is posted.
Parents should expect to pay a registration fee per event (paid to the host club) Fees range from $40-$120 depending on the event and level. Parents will also receive an invoice from the attending coach, typically for their time, coaching, mileage and accommodations (if applicable) Please speak to your skaters coach regarding these fees if you have any questions. Fees range depending on the location and the number of skaters attending.
Competition Attire
Female skaters will need:
-a skating dress (long sleeved dresses are recommended for Star 1 & 2)
-tights
-a warm up sweater with a zipper and no hood (club wear or black is preferred)
-skate guards
-running shoes to warm up
-hair should be tied back neatly off the face.
Male skaters will need:
-a warm up jacket or sweater
-program / solo attire (typically black or dark coloured pants and a long sleeved shirt
STAR 1 Competitions
Skaters are this level are showcasing their elements. Elements are individually executed with a group of skaters, typically using half the ice surface. Skaters are assessed to a standard by a panel of officials. For each elements, skaters are awarded a BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD rating. At the conclusion of the event, skaters will receive a report card and a ribbon. Coaches are allowed to be on the ice with skaters at this level.
STAR 2 Competitions
Skaters at this level often perform their 2-minute free skate solo which includes the required elements. Skaters will perform their program individually using the full ice and assesses by a panel of officials. For each elements, officials award a BRONZE, SILVER or GOLD rating. STAR 2 will also include two program components: SKATING SKILLS & PERFORMANCE. At the conclusion of the event, skaters will receive a report card and a ribbon. Coaches will stay alongside the boards off the ice for a skaters warm up and program. Skaters may also choose to compete in individual or team elements or interpretive skating events.
STAR 3 Competitions

STAR 4 is the first level where skaters are ranked amongst each other and medals are given to the top 3 skaters.
