All of our professional coaches are contracted by the club to coach group lessons on our CanSkate, CanPower and StarSkate sessions. Our coaches are all trained and certified through Skate Canada's National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and are all first-aid certified. All Skate Canada coaches must be registered coaching members in good standing.

Coaches are not permitted to solicit parents or skaters for private lessons according to Skate Canada's Coaches Code of Ethics. Parents and coaches enter into a private agreement which may be ended at the discretion of the coach or parent. It is often best to choose a coach for the season and then re-evaluate your needs at the end of the year. You may have more than one coach to work on the different disciplines in skating.

SKATE CANADA'S CODE OF ETHICS

Parents and coaches work together to decide what their goals are for their child and how many lessons they wish to have per week to fit their budget and desires. You may wish to ask your coach to give your child group lessons with one or two other skaters to reduce costs. You can expect your coach to communicate with you regularly about how your child is progressing and what tests they will be ready to try and when. It is the skater’s responsibility to inform their coach of an absence from a lesson or you may be charged for that missed lesson.

COACHES CODE OF ETHICS

Coaches are self-employed and set their own hours and fees.

CanSkaters may arrange to have their skater work directly with an individual coach for private lessons during the cool-down period of CanSkate sessions (10 minutes)

Junior PreStar & Junior Star private lessons are not mandatory but may be available based on coach availability.

Intermediate & Senior Star must make arrangements for private lessons with one of our base coaches by the end of September of each skating season.

Our coaches schedules fill up quickly each season and availability is limited. We recommend contacting a coach or our StarSkate Coordinator scostarskate@gmail.com as soon as possible if your skater requires lessons.
