JUNIOR PRESTAR suitable for skaters who have completed Stage 4 of the CanSkate program, have equivalent skating skills or on coach recommendation. Ideal for skaters who are interested in pursuing figure skating as a sport

The PreStar program is a bridge program between CanSkate & StarSkate. Skaters will work on completing Stage 5 & 6 of the CanSkate program, as well as start to learn some figure skating oriented skills. Many of the Stage 5 & 6 skills are carried through the Star 1-10 program.

JUNIOR PRESTAR SKILLS

LESSONS

Lessons are taught in a group format. All lessons are included in your registration fee.

SESSION FORMAT

Each session includes:

  • 10-minute stroking
  • 30-minute group lesson
  • 10-minute independent skating time

PROGRESS REPORTS

Progress reports will be given to skaters at the end of each session (Fall / Winter / Spring). Skaters may be invited to move up to Junior Star at each10-week mark (Winter / Spring) if they have completed Stage 6. Our StarSkate Coordinator will let you know if your skater is ready to move up.

SKATES

Figure skates must be worn in our PreStar program. It is important that skaters have good quality equipment. Better quality boots and blades will provide the needed support as your skater advances and it will help prevent injury. It's highly recommended skaters are purchased from one of the retailers listed below.

Skates should be sharpened every 30-40 hours of skating.

ATTIRE

Skaters should wear warm layers- we know the rink is cold!

We recommend warm mitts, leggings / athletic pants with tights underneath, or a skating dress / skirt (for females) and layers (for males)

A fleece, sweatshirt, long-sleeved t-shirt, yoga jacket or a jacket that is not too bulky or restrictive. Skaters may also wear skating dresses/skirts.

Skaters hair should be pulled back away from their face and consider a hat or headband

Skaters should not wear JEANS, BAGGY CLOTHING, HOODIES

HELMETS

All skaters must wear a CSA approved helmet until they complete CanSkate Stage 5 as per Skate Canada. Parents will receive notification when their skater is ready to take off their helmet.
